How to get your Crunchbase API usage, balance and spend programmatically

The Crunchbase Data API has no balance, usage or quota endpoint. Access is contract-priced, and your call cap is set in the contract.

No billing API, so measure from your side

There's no meter to poll, so Argus counts calls and 429s from the SDK and tracks Crunchbase as a flat subscription.

Credential. A Crunchbase Data API key, sent as X-cb-user-key. Argus validates it with an organization lookup.

Gotchas

  • Data endpoints live under /v4/data. The legacy /api/v4 paths are being replaced.
  • The free API tier was removed in 2025. Self-serve Pro and Business web plans don't include API access.

How Crunchbase charges

Enterprise Data API is contract-priced (no public per-call rate, no balance endpoint); self-serve Pro/Business web plans are separate and don't include API access.

PlanMonthly price
Pro (web)$99
Business (web)$199
Enterprise APIContact sales

At zero. 429. Free API tier eliminated (2025). No credit meter — call cap is contractual.

  • 200 requests per minute, per key. 429 not verbatim in the rate-limit paragraph (VERIFY); 426 if HTTPS not used.

Or let Argus track it

Paste the key once. Argus keeps the ledger, and your coding agent reads it through the MCP server.

  • With the SDK, counts each call and every 429 against the plan's allowance, since there's no meter to read.
  • Emails you on low balance, days to zero, a spend spike, or projected overage.
  • Hands all of it to your coding agent over MCP, so it can ask what a run cost or how much runway is left without leaving the editor.
