Call it yourself
Credential. A SendGrid API key (SG.…). Argus validates it with GET /v3/scopes.
Plan type
curl https://api.sendgrid.com/v3/user/account \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $SENDGRID_API_KEY"
{ "type": "paid", "reputation": 99.7 }Trimmed to the fields Argus reads. Values are examples.
Gotchas
- The named tier (Essentials, Pro, Premier) and its email volume aren't in any API.
- Overage is metered and invoiced the following month, so the bill lags the sends.
- The free tier was replaced by a 60-day trial capped at 100 emails a day.
How SendGrid charges
Volume-tier subscriptions (Essentials/Pro) by included emails/month; overage metered and invoiced next month. 60-day trial replaced the free tier.
| Plan | Monthly price |
|---|---|
| Free Trial | $0 |
| Essentials (50k) | $19.95 |
| Essentials (100k) | $34.95 |
| Pro | $89.95 |
| Premier | Contact sales |
At zero. 429. Paid plans meter overage, invoiced the following month; trial hard-stops at 100/day.
Or let Argus track it
Paste the key once. Argus keeps the ledger, and your coding agent reads it through the MCP server.
- Tracks the plan: the allowance, what's used this period, the reset date, and when you cross into overage.
- With the SDK, counts each call and every 429 against the plan's allowance, since there's no meter to read.
- Emails you on low balance, days to zero, a spend spike, or projected overage.
- Hands all of it to your coding agent over MCP, so it can ask what a run cost or how much runway is left without leaving the editor.

- Does SendGrid have an API for its balance?
- SendGrid has no credit balance or remaining-quota endpoint. GET /v3/user/account only tells you whether the account is free or paid; consumption has to be counted from /v3/stats against your tier.
- Can I get SendGrid spend per day from the API?
- No. Count calls and price them yourself, or let the Argus SDK do it.
- What happens when SendGrid credits run out?
- Requests fail with HTTP 429. Paid plans meter overage, invoiced the following month; trial hard-stops at 100/day.
- What key does Argus need for SendGrid?
- A SendGrid API key (SG.…). Argus validates it with GET /v3/scopes.
