Argus vs Ramp AI token spend management

Ramp reads OpenAI, Anthropic and other AI vendors' admin APIs daily for finance teams. Argus reads every metered API hourly for the developers and agents spending it.

Ramp's AI token spend management reads OpenAI, Anthropic and other AI vendors' admin APIs once a day and puts the spend in front of finance, with threshold alerts and soft limits. Argus reads every metered API you use, including the non-AI ones, hourly, tracks prepaid balances and runway, and puts the result in front of the developer and the coding agent doing the spending. If the question is "what did we spend on AI last month, by team", use Ramp. If it's "is this run burning credits right now", use Argus.

Where Ramp is better

  • It lives where finance already works: alongside cards, bills and accounting, with spend attributed to people, departments and API keys.
  • Enterprise seat products. ChatGPT Enterprise, Claude Enterprise and Cursor usage per user, which Argus doesn't cover.
  • Gemini billed totals through the Cloud Billing export, and AWS Bedrock, which Argus doesn't cover.
  • A free tier with a dashboard and anomaly detection, and no Ramp card required.

Where Argus is better

  • Beyond AI. Firecrawl, Tavily, Apollo, Hunter, Bright Data, SendGrid and the rest of the APIs an AI product calls.
  • Balances and runway. Ramp's docs say that for OpenAI credit-based plans it doesn't separate prepaid credit use from overage; Argus reads the balance where the API exposes one and gives you days to zero.
  • Hourly, and per call. A loop that started an hour ago shows up today, not tomorrow.
  • Built for the person and the agent spending it, with an MCP server your coding agent can query.

Cards see the charge, not the meter

Brex, Ramp cards and any corporate card see the transaction: the $100 top-up or the monthly invoice. They can't see that the $100 has eight days left, or that a third of it went to one endpoint. That's the gap a meter-level tool fills, whether it's Ramp's token spend product or Argus.

Questions

Does Ramp track OpenAI and Anthropic API usage?
Yes. Ramp's AI token spend management connects to the OpenAI and Claude APIs with admin keys, and also supports ChatGPT Enterprise, Claude Enterprise, Cursor, Gemini via a BigQuery billing export, AWS Bedrock and Fireworks AI. Data syncs daily and reflects the previous day.
Can Brex or a corporate card track API usage?
A card sees the charge when it posts: the top-up or the monthly invoice. It doesn't see the usage meter behind it, prepaid balances or rate limits.
